All Ideas are Contemplations that may Blossom into Insight
On Attention
On Polls
I'm watching an episode of JRE right now where the guest talks about how Facebook are YouTube are competing for your attention. It's true, marketing is competition for attention. Before anything else, the very first step is for me to grab your attention. Keeping your attention, and ensuring you come back a second time, are afterthoughts.

Now ask yourself, how many folks are passionate enough about any one thing where they would have the gall to constantly seek attention? I am putting the product aside for the moment. I am just talking about the act of marketing the product, or promoting it. Not many would feel comfortable to constantly promote something. It's not because of a fear of spam. Because there is no shame is promoting something once to someone and moving on, when they are at a public space (both online and offline). But most won't because they don't really believe in what they are promoting. Sincere belief is a rare commodity these days. But when you have it, you can promote freely. It's not competing for attention. It's thinking highly enough of you to spread the word. Just once.

The polls were overwhelmingly wrong again in predicting the 2020 presidential election in USA. The race was much closer than anticipated. Why do the polls keep getting it wrong? Is there something nefarious going on? No. It's due to research's arrogance in believing it can avoid biases. It's nearly impossible to avoid all biases. Only certain kinds of folks will always want to give opinions, whether it be on phones or in any other medium. It's self selection bias at its finest. What needs to happen is a mock poll before the real poll. Don't attempt to paint a picture of the truth. Rather, replicate the truth as best as you can!
